Minister Furlan meets with the Competitiveness Forum

The Minister of the Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Luiz Fernando Furlan, met with the Representatives of the Competitiveness Forum of the Productive Chain of Toiletry, Perfumery and Cosmetics on November 25 in Brasilia. The purpose of the meeting was to present the results achieved by the Program in 2004.

Amid so many events that marked the Brazilian and world economy, the Brazilian Industry of Toiletry, Perfumery and Cosmetics may have a considerable growth estimated in real terms in 14,91%. Net profit may reach R$ 12,9 billion. That result itself is already an excellent one and when it is compared to the forecast of economic growth in general (6%) it consolidates the success of a strategy formed, among other factors, by portfolio diversification, growing use of inputs from the Brazilian biodiversity and increasing productivity allied to the creation of job offer.

Exports may grow 35% this year against 18% expected by the Government. Export participation, although small (about 7%), has been increasing mainly in the past two years. Therefore, there is still a huge area to grow.

More than 120 thousand work placements have been created in the past two years. That result surpasses what had been expected by the Government, which was 81,5 thousand yearly work placements.

Much has been done in the areas of activities of the Competitiveness Forum and the approximation with the Government has been an important factor regarding the success of negotiations as well as the achievement of results.

The sector performance, doubtlessly, was excellent. And it was deserving. After all, we have been working in order to remove the hindrances that affect the competitiveness of the productive chain and we will continue searching for the outstanding quality which is the most important aspect of the Competitiveness Forum.

Report your difficulties in activity areas of the Competitiveness Forum so that we can discuss and suggest solutions before the Government in any of the following areas: foreign trade, investments, technological capacitation, biodiversity, environment and regulation.

You can count of the Competitiveness Forum strength!
